Yumi meets Aunt Karren

Karren brought Ardella home early this afternoon. Karren and her father stopped to visit for a few minutes before going to GDB campus for graduation. Of course she wanted to meet Yumi. I think they like one another.

Yumi and Karren meet

We had Yumi in an ex-pen we set up in the family room area so we could manage the meet and greet with Ardella. That went well. They sniffed noses and wagged tails, and when I let Yumi out of the ex-pen, Ardella got excited and they were play bowing at one another and then Ardella started barking, which set Yumi barking, but that was stopped and then Ardella decided to ignore Yumi. She's been sulking a little bit, but I can manage Yumi's behavior with Ardella so that she isn't jumping in Ardella's face. Yumi would love to play with Ardella, and Ardella may be more accepting in time, especially if Yumi maintains calm around her.

Karren has taken Ardella to the dog park a few times in the last month and the last time she visited a dog park with Karren, Ardella showed interest in a Rottweiler and Greyhound who were very calm dogs. She hid under a bench when an excited bulldog wanted to play and migrated to the woman who had the Rottweiler and Greyhound when the bulldog was approaching Ardella and Karren. I'm a little more optimistic that Ardella will adjust to Yumi.

Yumi is picking up her name and sit. We've had a few more accidents but she's back to eating and drinking on a normal schedule after the trip up here from California. She's so responsive and willing to please. I think Yumi looks huge in her pictures, but she's really quite small. Oh - she has puppy breath. How can I study when there's a puppy around with puppy breath?! I actually read a book this weekend - first in months for pleasure - and read Thunder Dog. I read it out loud to Yumi and we have chats about what would Roselle do when Yumi gets fussy, like right now when she's in her crate and shrieking because she hates it. She's still sleeping through the night and I'm still grateful for that!
